Many years ago, I had a wise Pastor make a suggestion to me that I still use. For a better understanding of the Bible his recommendation was for me to personalize the Scriptures. He assured me this would enhance my understanding of the Bible and GOD. He said, “One way to do this is to
insert your name in the place of the pronouns (he, him, they, them). Also, as you meditate on the Word, put yourself in the scene of the teaching and miracles of Jesus.”
There are many new dangers, both seen and unseen, facing me here in Kenya. One reason I can stay here in confidence is Psalm 91. I’ve had to stand on the promises in this Psalm in America and now here in new territories. I submit to you my personal version of Psalm 91. If you see some areas of improvement, please submit to me those blessings.
Ken’s Psalm 91
1. Anyone who (sits and relaxes) in the (hiding place) of (Elyon, the Most High GOD) shall (stop and stay) under the (defense, protection, and cover) of (El Shaddai, the Almighty GOD).
2. I will say of (Jehovah, the self-Existent One) “You are (and always will be) my (place of safety) and my (solid and strong protection); my (only GOD), in You I will (lay aside all concerns and worries).
3. (There is no doubt) You shall (rescue) me from the snare of the (trappers), and from (any epidemic disease with a high death rate).
4. You shall cover me with Your feathers, and under Your wings I shall (find my protection). Your truth (is my protection from large and small attacks).
5. I shall not be afraid of (any person who inspires fear) by night, or the (spears, bullets, and missiles) that fly by day.
6. Nor of (any epidemic disease with a high death rate) that walks in darkness; or of the (ruin that devastates) at noonday.
7. A thousand may (experience a sudden drop) at my side, and ten thousand at my right hand; but it shall, (no way or by no means), not come near me.
8. Only with my eyes shall I look, and see the reward of the (ungodly, morally wrong people);
9. (Why?) Because I have made (Jehovah, the self-Existent One) my (place of safety), (Elyon, the Most High GOD), my (home).
10. No evil shall befall me, nor shall any plague come near my dwelling;
11.For He, (Jehovah), shall give His angels (responsibility for my safety). To (be a hedge about me) in all my ways.
12.In their hands they shall (lift) me up, lest I (strike) my foot against a stone.*
13.I shall (step on) the lion (people with a strong roar), and the cobra (people who twist words and situations); the young lion (a village) and all my (fears, both land and sea) I shall trample underfoot.
14.“Because Ken has set his love upon Me, (Jehovah), therefore I, (the Self-Existent One), will deliver him; I, (the Self Existent One), will (establish Ken in a high inaccessible place) because he has (become intimate with) My (character and personhood).
15. Ken shall call on Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him (ensuring his victory) in (times of) trouble. I, Jehovah, will deliver him and honor him.
16.With (length of days) I, Jehovah, will satisfy him, and show him My (aid, victory, and prosperity; My deliverance, health, and help).”
Father God, I receive Your blessings and promises. I only deserve them because of the sacrifices of Jesus the Christ. Amen!!!
*There’s more revelation to this ‘stone’ than I have at this time.
Pastor Ken Gaston
I love the way you broke it down verse by verse, inserting terms and phrases that made it more personal to you. I can see how READING it aloud could have a more personal effect on the reader. Great suggestion made to you, illustrated to me & well be incorporated into the studies of Marvella! Thank you
